GRMA Madagascar Phase 1 Inception Report

The Global Risk Modelling Alliance (GRMA) programme, in collaboration with Madagascar’s Cellule de Prévention et d’appui à la Gestion des Urgences (CPGU), is pleased to announce the publication of the Phase 1 Inception Report. The report is prepared by the implementing partners, AXA Climate in consortium with Artelia and BRGM. It was presented at the Inception Workshop held in September 2024, where it was discussed and validated by a range of Malagasy stakeholders. This milestone marks the start of two critical areas of technical support aimed at enhancing Madagascar’s climate resilience.

Phase 1 Highlights:
The inception phase has focused on delivering two key areas of support:

  1. Creating a comprehensive risk profile for multiple hazards, including cyclone, floods, drought, landslides, erosion, fires, red sandstorms, and locust invasions.
  2. Setting up a unified database to manage and utilize information on hazards, exposure, capacity, vulnerability, damage, and loss more effectively.

Madagascar’s geographic vulnerability to climate risks underscores the urgency of these initiatives. The launch of GRMA Phase 1 solidifies a foundation for long-term resilience, aligning with broader objectives such as Madagascar’s Climate Prosperity Plan and the Global Shield Ambition framework.
